晨读经典英文诗歌:The Road to Avignon  A Minstrel stands on a marble stair,
9 U5 `  x% L" E* s2 q& Z  Blown by the bright wind, debonair;
1 x+ T& x* C: c2 r  Below lies the sea, a sapphire floor,/ X/ Y" m$ z/ e# Z7 p; ~' l4 j5 I6 j
  Above on the terrace a turret door
3 r) h( y) |: J$ f. d  Frames a lady, listless and wan,
$ f9 g/ O( G  w! ~% s  But fair for the eye to rest upon.
, O2 M0 D+ X# G$ X% W$ T8 J8 j  The minstrel plucks at his silver strings,0 S: x+ @# \% e# {4 H
  And looking up to the lady, sings: --
1 ?: a& o1 |- f  Down the road to Avignon,* u1 w; h& f3 o( y
  The long, long road to Avignon,
. {) c* U& g! _3 _* W  Across the bridge to Avignon,
" C: P( Q9 z; X" M# `! X  One morning in the spring.
6 z( b: Y/ ?3 K: n  The octagon tower casts a shade9 Z  i2 p5 Q0 x0 c7 ^. Y
  Cool and gray like a cutlass blade;
. s/ `8 O" G" Q( w3 J6 E" p  In sun-baked vines the cicalas spin,
8 m' l' d) W" P3 U* ]9 Z  The little green lizards run out and in.
8 _( S# C! o. [2 h: \  A sail dips over the ocean's rim,
2 E# l/ N, V" O$ ?5 z8 @) a8 V  And bubbles rise to the fountain's brim." p& N) i5 d' D+ D
  The minstrel touches his silver strings,
# Z2 X! [0 H6 X5 W  G6 b9 c" p) [  And gazing up to the lady, sings: --

  The long, long road to Avignon,
/ k3 e: K/ [: S7 {. e0 w4 O2 W/ n1 X  Across the bridge to Avignon,) Y) I* b- r* Y0 y
  One morning in the spring.

  Idly notes how the blossoms fade* C% y  e# G( z
  In the sun's caress; then crosses where% w1 ^+ f1 r9 |8 i* B+ S6 J
  The shadow shelters a carven chair.

  Within its curve, supine she lies,
6 n& G/ p: m% z* Y$ n7 N% O% y  And wearily closes her tired eyes.( [$ M& ?* o- K3 P' B
  The minstrel beseeches his silver strings,( U) w; q5 h" f, F# F7 j
  And holding the lady spellbound, sings: --

  The long, long road to Avignon,
: C5 S, m5 F4 Z. N  Across the bridge to Avignon,

  Clouds sail over the distant trees,

  They fall on the terrace tiles like snow;. @4 f: f, g  l- c* I0 j* N* y
  The sighing of waves sounds, far below.

  Then laden with honey and love he goes.

  And climbing up to the lady, sings: --! H+ b8 V+ i& Q. d$ k7 P4 \# y( n& l
  Down the road to Avignon," ?. U( d& l. K* R6 C2 A
  The long, long road to Avignon,& }3 J. ^: n; ]
  Across the bridge to Avignon," `; V/ B) l! G7 k+ a3 N9 v
  One morning in the spring.! ~  }) V0 l# t  ~8 W" e; V
  Step by step, and he comes to her,
. g* X0 d: r8 P" O1 c  c  Fearful lest she suddenly stir.3 U2 |) G: N: J
  Sunshine and silence, and each to each,, C) z  s4 i) t# X! W
  The lute and his singing their only speech;& f& u4 V9 E5 c6 g3 Y0 d
  He leans above her, her eyes unclose,/ z( g- T2 ~7 D5 q5 s
  The humming-bird enters another rose.! s3 G# Z8 j' t/ Z9 D
  The minstrel hushes his silver strings.) T' h% O- ]+ h9 p2 \
  Hark! The beating of humming-birds' wings!
